Tools to Handle Cost Basis Reconciliation

ATWeb provides the tools to handle daily and/or monthly reconciliation of portfolio activity which includes both transactions and positions.  Within the ATWeb staging table, transaction activity is captured and grouped by type. Each transaction is associated with an entity, portfolio and security (when applicable) and has a unique batch and ID number. Fields such as pricing and open holding detail are automatically loaded into ATWeb and do not utilize a staging area.

Upon processing from the staging area, ATWeb can begin reconciling data. The ATWeb Reconciliation screens consist of two data components:

  1. 1. System (data currently in ATWeb)
  2. 2. External Data Source (data provided from the custodian)

Partnership Accounting: How to Simplify and Automate the Accounting Close

ATWeb has full partnership accounting functionality enabling firms to manage the activity of the partnership and the allocations to the investors’ capital accounts. ATWeb automates several key functions that occur during the accounting close process and possesses income allocation and flexible fee structure capabilities.

Partnership Income Allocation

The system tracks each investor’s tax basis, capital account and disparity balance (unrealized) with adjustments made based on the nature of the income allocated to each investor (e.g. unrealized vs. taxable).  In cases where investors have contributed or withdrawn securities in-kind, ATWeb recognizes these transactions and properly allocates gains and losses when contributed securities are sold by the partnership.

Trust Reporting in ATWeb

In a previously posted FAQ, we provided a brief overview of the system’s ability to facilitate trust accounting. In addition to utilizing ATWeb’s trust accounting functionality, users may also run trust-specific reports.

Using trust accounting data stored within the system, ATWeb can be leveraged to produce five primary trust reports that provide clear visibility into clients’ trust accounts and their corresponding details.

Trust Reporting

Statement of Capital provides beginning and ending capital amounts, as well as additions and subtractions to capital, for a chosen period.

Statement of Income provides standard income statement and retained earnings information relevant to the trust of a particular entity over a chosen period. The user may also opt for a side-by-side comparison of different time periods.

Trust Balances Report provides the overall net worth of the trust account.

Trust Balances (Alternate Presentation) Report provides the overall net worth of the trust account with additional sort options available at run-time.

Trust Profile Report contains a combination of high-level trust balances, select trust details and relevant trust dates for a given entity.

Of particular interest to potential buyers concerns how ATWeb tracks changes in ownership percentages of a particular fund in the event of investment appreciation.

To address this question we’ve devised a specific scenario:

Scenario: If two individuals within a partnership are participating in a side pocket where their investment appreciates in value during a specific period, does the ownership percentage of the fund increase? If so, how does ATWeb manage the calculation of their ownership percentage?
